Jon Watkins sits down with recording artist Joey Hyde about his radio tour, debut single “Get It On”, and his upcoming record release.
Daily Life on Tour
People ask me “What do you do all day? What does it look like?” Well, someone tells me where to be and I just go. Someone is in charge of my schedule, so I don’t have to think too much. I go and hang out with people and talk about music. Most everyone is really cool.
Promo tours as a hired guitarist
Every situation is different. I have had situations where I have had to rehearse four times for a six song showcase…and I have had other situations where I meet the person at the connection airport and the day of the gig, I did a lot of promo stuff with James Wesley, I played guitar with Florida Georgia Line.
Writing “Get It On”
I will write a song, forget about it for a little bit and then come back to it and see if it sticks. That’s what happened with this – we wrote it and then put it on a shelf and didn’t think about it for a while, and then one of my co-writers, Ryan, thought it was pretty good and decided to demo it…So, me, my buddy Ryan, and my buddy John Mclaughlin…were getting together to write and decided to tweak a few lines on “Get It On”. I called my drummer to come to the publishing house cause I had a little studio with a drum set in it, and I ran home to grab my bass and a guitar, and we did a quick demo in the basement and my buddy Ryan was singing the demo.
